What was meant to be a routine moment between separated parents quickly spiraled into a terrifying scene of gunfire, leaving a father of six fighting for his life and a family shaken by violence that unfolded in front of a small child.
According to a woman who witnessed the incident, the situation began during a simple child exchange on Taylor Avenue. She had arrived expecting nothing more than to pick up her children and return home safely. Instead, a brief interaction between her and a teenage acquaintance triggered a chain of events that ended with a man being shot in the stomach.
The mother, whose identity is being kept confidential for safety reasons, said the encounter appeared harmless at first. As she explained, a friend of her nephew approached her and said hello.
“He’s only 16,” she said while recounting the moment. But the greeting allegedly sparked jealousy from her ex-boyfriend, who was nearby. Shortly after the interaction, she says he began sending threatening text messages.
“He started texting my phone saying something would happen,” she recalled.
That threat soon turned into violence.
Moments later, gunfire erupted on the street. The woman says she froze in fear as chaos unfolded around her. Her brother-in-law stepped forward to protect her, placing himself between her and the shooter.
Within seconds, he was struck by a bullet.
The victim was later identified as 43-year-old Fernando Noyola, a father of six. Emergency responders rushed him to the hospital where he was reported to be alive but in serious condition. Doctors prepared him for surgery as investigators began examining the scene.
Adding to the horror of the moment was the presence of a small child inside the vehicle.
The woman said her 3-year-old daughter was sitting in the car when the shots were fired.
“What I thought about in that moment was just grabbing my child out of the car and running,” she said.
Authorities shut down a section of Taylor Avenue in the Parkchester neighborhood as detectives searched for evidence. Police combed the street for shell casings and interviewed witnesses in hopes of identifying and locating the gunman.
As of the latest reports, the suspected shooter had not yet been found.
Police have not confirmed whether a video circulating online helped lead investigators to the crime scene. However, the woman says the man she believes is responsible had previously shown violent behavior.
She shared a separate video that allegedly shows her ex-boyfriend vandalizing her car months earlier — slashing tires and smashing the windshield during a prior dispute.
While that earlier incident caused property damage, she says the confrontation this week escalated to a level she never imagined.
The situation has become even more disturbing for the family, as the woman claims she has continued receiving threatening text messages — this time allegedly from the suspected gunman’s father.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed those claims, but investigators say the case remains active.
For now, the mother says she is staying far away from the area where the shooting occurred and focusing on keeping her child safe until police make an arrest.
Meanwhile, a community waits for answers — and for justice — after a moment that should have been routine turned into a life-threatening act of violence.
